Zutari supports front-line NPOs in Covid-19 crisis
As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to rage across the continent, Zutari is investing in Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) that continue to play a vital role in communities, especially now. Many of these front-line NPOs, caring for thousands of vulnerable people, are under increasingly crippling funding pressure.
Therefore Zutari has selected the Gap Fund, established by the Mergon Group in March 2020, as the beneficiary of a significant donation, reveals Sonja Jansen Van Rensburg, Chief Communications Officer, Africa. The fund is set up as a distribution platform for small grants to financially support indispensable NPOs during the Covid-19 crisis.
Disbursements from the Gap Fund are carried out by the Mergon Foundation, which has a long history of supporting carefully-selected NPOs in South Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa.
Zutari not only focuses on delivering impactful engineering services that make a difference in local communities, it is also involved in a range of corporate social investment (CSI) projects across the country.
It is providing project management support and supply-chain governance for the R100 million South African Pandemic Intervention and Relief Effort (SPIRE) fund established by FirstRand. The SPIRE fund is supporting South Africa’s Covid-19 critical-care capacity, medical structures and resources.
Here Zutari has donated glass panelling to the Charlotte Maxeke hospital in Parktown, Johannesburg. It was also responsible for transportation of the materials to site. “We are pleased that our contribution has resulted in improved intensive care units at Charlotte Maxeke and other hospitals,” highlights Kate Roper, Client Director, Government, Health and Education at Zutari.
Another successful CSI project saw Zutari partnering with the Tembisa Self-Help Association of the Disabled (T-SHAD) and the City of Ekurhuleni for food-parcel distribution to needy residents. In the Western Cape, Zutari has made a substantial donation to the Century City Feed-A-Family initiative spearheaded by the Rabie Property Group. The initiative has partnered with the Western Cape Red Cross Society to assist in delivering 4 500 food parcels to date.
“We are honoured to be part of these initiatives, which demonstrate and encourage the spirit of ubuntu during these trying times. I have no doubt that this has also strengthened our relationships with our clients,” comments Zutari CEO Dr. Gustav Rohde.
Zutari’s CSI programme allows it to strengthen and nurture many of its long-standing client relationships “by collaborating and making a difference to the communities in which we operate during these critical times. Zutari is, after all, about making a difference to and having an impact on the communities around us,” Dr. Rohde concludes.
