Women’s ability to understand and anticipate what their clients need have been proven to be one of the key differentiators to their success in the construction industry, says Janet van Zyl – Managing Member of Samson.

Call it female intuition, coupled with technical knowledge, chutzpa and just a general “can-do” attitude is why they have become one of the respected women leaders in a traditionally male-dominated industry, leading a team of 6 employees for the past 11 years.

When asked about her leadership philosophy and style, Janet is quick to acknowledge that everyone is made to feel part of the Samson family, which means that we all share in the success. “I do my best to keep the entire company informed on our performance, what our clients say and want from us and how we are focusing or gearing the business to services these needs”.

“In terms of my personal philosophy, Monique says, “Being on top of your game, knowing what you are talking about with regards to products and technical performance, being visible on site, and sticking to your promises are key components for success. As soon as the guys see you know your stuff, can give reputable advice, and don’t have any problem getting dirty, they respect you.”

Both these inspirational women concur that the previous stereotype of women is changing and that they can’t be more happy working with their Samson team and clients alike.
