Highlighting some of the top benefits of using specific tile products for a residential project that had unique, very detailed requirements.
For more than 15 years, Natural Stone Warehouse have taken pride in sourcing top-quality natural stone products from around the world. Based on this foundation, it is with great excitement that they offer the first turnkey tiling solution in South Africa.
Their processes begin with professional advice and guidance in selecting suitable products, finishes and solutions from their wide range of premium natural stone tiles and cladding. The client’s brief is translated into a 3D visual design to present the products selected in a visual, realistic manner, along with a conceptual plan. Upon finalisation of the product selection, a detailed bill of quantities and services, that indicates the scope of work and all costs involved, is drawn up for approval.
After a full site assessment and survey, work commences with Natural Stone Warehouse coordinating everything on site. Meetings with all the stakeholders are held at frequent intervals on site to ensure a trouble-free installation. This is achieved by teams of specialised professionals that are continuously under the supervision of Natural Stone Warehouse.
One of their very first full-house projects involved the renovation of a Clifton bungalow for Fabricate Design. Their client’s brief was to renovate the existing bungalow in order to create a light, bright and simple look that also maximises the sea views and natural light.
Design Concept & Use of Tiles
This residential project entailed 150m² of renovated, double-storey property on a 230m² plot. Patty Price Architects (represented by Patty Price) in association with Mark Finney and Graham Viljoen of Fabricate Design were selected as the architects for this project.
The home has two generous en-suite bedrooms downstairs. Upstairs is an open-plan living area that extends onto a spacious terrace with sea views, as well as a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom.
Fittings and finishes were designed to create warm and easily usable social spaces and to blend the boundaries between the interior and outdoor living areas. Due to the fact that the kitchen was relocated, Natural Stone Warehouse used the opportunity to open it up to the terrace for seamless, entertaining and magnificent views.
The beautiful limestone floor tiles (Crema Havana honed) used throughout the home imitate the colour of the sand on the beach and help to link the interior to the exterior spaces. The client wanted a natural stone tile, which is why the chosen product provided the perfect colour and high-quality feel the client so adamantly sought. To ensure consistency, the same tiles were used for the en-suite bathrooms, complementing the adjacent oak flooring used in the bedrooms. In the bathrooms the floor tiles were neatly cut and installed to minimise slips and falls inside the showers.
“Natural Stone Warehouse carried out the installation professionally, effectively and with good attention to detail,” concludes Mark Finney from Fabricate Design. “Any issues were resolved swiftly and without hassle.”
