Build Antique, a family-owned business based outside Stellenbosch, offers a selection of vintage building materials.
These items contribute to building or renovating in an eco-friendly way. Salvaged decades ago, rather than letting them disappear into landfills, the items embrace the benefits of zero waste.
Reuse
Build Antique makes it easy to source unique and distinctive doors and windows that have stood the test of time. The vast collection of unique, reclaimed building materials includes a selection of more than 400 doors, ranging from sought-after teak to more economical meranti. A large variety of windows is also available, including Burmese teak and iroko, and magnificent, vintage arched teak and sash windows.
Flagship pieces include hand-carved doors, done by a master woodcarver, and old hardwood beams, including six-metre-long yellowwood beams and reclaimed Oregon beams. Reclaimed cast iron pieces include gates, poles and brackets.
Architectural salvage
The use of architectural salvage reduces waste and saves natural resources, making it a sustainable choice. Reusing or recycling vintage and antique building materials offers sustainable and distinctive pieces for both new and refurbishment projects.
Customer service
Build Antique’s brother and sister duo, Antonio and Giovanna Gerbi, focus on providing a personalised service to ensure clients get the right fit. Items can be modified to client specifications at the on-site workshop, and can be shipped countrywide with insurance, through a trusted courier company.
Issue: Improving sustainability in new and refurbished buildings.
