Ceramic Industries attended the Milan Furniture Fair to bring back some of the hottest international trends.

Ceramic Industries’ ongoing commitment to design took them to Italy for the Milan Furniture Fair this year. The Fair showcases the very latest trends in interior design and it is attended by manufacturers, designers and design enthusiasts from around the world.

“It’s undeniably one of the most important events in the world of design,” said Patrizia Cortese, Product and Development Manager for the tile and bathroom ware manufacturer. Each year, Ceramic Industries uses the opportunity to cherry-pick what it believes to be the most stylish and appealing trends, using these as a springboard for their own creative designs.

At this year’s Fair, Patrizia spotted the use of combinations of natural materials. Raw-grain wood used together with smooth marble or metals in clean modern lines featured prominently. Marble on display included classic white, as well as the chocolate hues of the Emperador and black Marquina marbles. “This is really going to influence the design of ceramic tiles strongly,” said Patrizia.

She also noticed softer, rounder shapes in bathroom designs. “It’s classic with a touch of modern,” she continues. Ceramic Industries takes inspiration from the use of colour and motifs, too.

Wallpaper featuring motifs of oversized floral, foliage and faded tapestries abound. All shades of grey are still very popular and the most prominent accent colour is teal.

With a notebook full of ideas, Patrizia said she is excited to bring this inspiration to the design studio at Ceramic Industries, which means South Africans can look forward to the most up-to-date trends in their own homes too.
