A butler’s pantry is becoming a popular feature in modern homes, with designers reimagining this space.
The traditional pantry is evolving into a versatile area. It is no longer used only for the storage of provisions and food, but is now also used for other preparation functions. Blum South Africa, a subsidiary of the Blum Group, shares insights into the findings from its requirements research into this trend.
Appliance boom
With a growing collection of small countertop appliances in most kitchens, it is becoming a challenge to maintain a functional and tidy space. Homeowners want quick access to these appliances without the hassle of storing them away after each use. These appliances can be bulky or heavy, easily cluttering work surfaces.

Concealed butler’s pantry spaces blend seamlessly with the rest of the kitchen for a modern look.
Functionality update
In response, designers are transforming the look and functionality of walk-in pantries by incorporating countertop space for small appliances and adding lots of deep drawers for practical storage.
Integrated coffee bars and wine storage are additional luxuries that can be included. Dry food is often dispensed into glass containers and displayed as features.

With Blum’s CLIP top BLUMOTION hinge, the door opens inward with no handle required.
Concealed spaces
Thinking outside the box creates a more functional pantry. Neatly conceal the butler’s pantry space using an inward-opening access door. When fitted with Blum CLIP top BLUMOTION hinges, it blends seamlessly with the rest of the kitchen.
