Embracing the latest social media craze – the Ice Bucket Challenge – this specific company also made a significant donation to support the charitable cause.
The Ice Bucket Challenge, one of the biggest acts online and in social media, had a slow start with just over 100 tweets on 15 July. Since its inception it has been rapidly embraced worldwide, reaching South Africa in a matter of weeks.
To date it has become a major fundraiser for organisations in aid of patients with the neurodegenerative disorder, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS,) known as Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in South Africa.
Johnson Tiles was challenged by tile retailer Tiletoria, who in turn, passed the challenge on to Kirk Marketing and Malls Tiles. Norcros SA Managing Director Thomas Willcocks and Johnson Tiles National Sales Manager Dewald Viljoen took up the Ice Bucket challenge on the 3rd of September at Johnson Tiles’ head office in Midrand.
Charl Viljoen, Johnson Tiles General Manager, and Susan Snyman, Johnson Tiles Sales Representative, also participated in this unique challenge. The aim of this challenge is not just to have fun, however; its roots are embedded in campaigning for Motor Neurone Disease and those afflicted. Johnson Tiles proudly donated R20 000 to support people with MND.
