A good garage door will last decades, so it makes sense to spend time making the best choice. Mike van Arkel from the leading garage door and automation supplier, SBS, advised a few factors to consider. “Hydro garage doors and Digi automation have been synonymous with quality since 1983. The entire range is available through SBS branches nationwide and supported by comprehensive after-sales service and spares.”
Here are Mike’s top considerations:
Check for added insulation
Choosing a well-insulated garage door will improve the energy efficiency of the entire home. Hydro’s sectional steel garage doors can come with a foam-filled backing that keeps the space cool in the summer and warm in the winter, increases security due to the double-skin strength of the door and helps absorb vibration – resulting in quieter operation.
Customise with colour
Choosing the right colour enhances curb appeal. Hydro’s steel section garage doors are available in Rustic Bark, Snow White, Thunder Storm (Charcoal), and can be painted to match your specific requirements. The powder-coated finish requires virtually no maintenance and is easy to clean, offering long-lasting and durable good looks.
The difference is in the detail
You need to take note of the quality of the hardware and inner workings of the door, not just its aesthetic appeal. Hydro garage doors are exceptionally secure, with top-end inner workings, double-throw locks and long-life counterbalance springs.
Different types of garage doors
- Sectional garage doors have steel or wood panel sections connected with hinges. Some of the advantages these doors have over traditional solid doors are providing increased headroom clearance to accommodate larger vehicles. The value for money is unmatched – with features such as true anti-pinch hinging, quality hardware and long service life counterbalance springs. We’ve recently introduced a new range of lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and durable Aluminium doors to our offering.
- Roll-up garage doors are built to withstand heavy usage, and high-performance units can be built without springs or enclosed to prevent rust, corrosion and freezing. Made from 0,4mm Aluzinc, Hydro doors include a unique “roll-over lip” built into the tracking, making them significantly stronger in heavy wind and preventing intruders from forcing the door open. And for those on a budget, our newly introduced Econo range offers great value for money.
