Rubik rising

Reaching for new heights, The Rubik is a luxury apartment complex in the heart of Cape Town’s central business district (CBD). Situated on the corner of Loop and Riebeek Street in Cape Town, The Rubik will invigorate the surrounding area and form a contemporary addition to the city’s skyline.

Designed by dhk Architects, The Rubik exemplifies state-of-the-art living: High-security concierge facilities operate around the clock alongside cutting-edge technology features and premium minimalist interiors.

Project brief

Rubik rising

Located in Cape Town’s CBD, The Rubik offers stunning views over the Mother City.

The aim was to produce a viable yet unique design for a mixed-use contemporary building that straddles the historical district, and the more recently developed City Blocks North of Riebeek Street. The challenge was to maximise the structure’s mass and height while providing scale conducive to the surrounding context.

To reduce the monolithic form of the building and prevent it from appearing overly dominant, the mass has been broken up into separate quadrilateral volumes and is further decompartmentalised by rotating each volume.

The interior spaces feature a minimalist design with high-end finishes, floor-to-ceiling windows and state-of-the-art technology.

Culminating in a height of 89 metres, the tower comprises an eleven-storey base including retail on the ground and first floors, seven storeys of office space and nine residential levels. The dynamic form of the tower will be highly distinguishable, featuring stacked glass box volumes that pivot around a central axis.

The interior spaces feature a minimalist design with high-end finishes, floor-to-ceiling windows and state-of-the-art technology.

Convenient location

The Rubik offers easy access to Cape Town’s rich restaurant scene, museums and art galleries, as well as significant historical sites. It lies along MyCiti bus routes near the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) and is minutes away from the V&A Waterfront.

Urban development

Abland Property Developers has spearheaded this project in conjunction with Nedbank CIB, Giflo Group and WBHO.

The Rubik builds on Abland’s legacy of architecturally significant developments in the Mother City, such as 22 Bree and 35 Lower Long. Both bear a prestigious four-star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA). This third venture adds another striking structure to Cape Town’s CBD.
