Hybridity is the hero of the much-awaited Plascon 2025 Colour Forecast.
Rather than focussing on a single colour, a colour combination or seasonal shifts, the 2025 forecast offers four colour families, each based on the meeting of opposites.
Taking Hybridity a step further, Plascon extends an invitation to combine colours across the colour families in the spirit of co-creation.
Bright: Digital x Physical
Leaning into the playful irreverence of online culture, this bright colour family is vivid, expressing energy through mood-boosting soft neons and digital fluorescents.
It raises a hat to a Capetonian context, in the vibrant colours of the Bo-Kaap’s historic homes.
Dark: Past x Present
Jewel tones and rich leather colours have been selected for this family. The darkest colours replace classic black in contemporary design, adding an undertone of old-world luxury.
It is in step with South African trends that favour lavish finishings over stark, cold minimalism.
Natural: Organic x Manmade
Colours are drawn from naturally occurring organic pigments and cultivated construction materials, creating a sense of calm and of oneness with nature.
In line with the international Japandi trend, it is a blend of Japanese and Scandinavian craftsmanship and balance.
Neutral: Hard x Soft
Neutrals bring lasting elegance. Concrete, wood and steel tones combine to tell a tonal story.
It is mirroring the mood of the defined grey shapes of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa’s silos, and the versatile colour and form of local unisex clothing brands.
Or, not and
Plascon’s 2025 Colour Forecast offers a permission slip to replace “or” with “and”, rejecting rigid rules and embracing hybridity. The four colour families place the power in the hands of the individual to make and remake spaces that continue to evolve.
Plascon’s 2025 Colour Forecast goes further than just a single colour of the year, with four colour families.
