The quality of a concrete screed can make or break a flooring project. Acting as the crucial intermediary layer between the structural substrate and the final decorative finish, a well-prepared screed ensures durability, strength and long-term performance.

The risks

A weak or improperly installed screed can lead to disastrous consequences. Cracking, delamination or uneven surfaces compromise the aesthetic appeal and functional longevity of a decorative flooring system.

Whether it’s a seamless resin-based floor, polished concrete, or an intricate decorative finish such as stone flooring, a poorly prepared base results in costly repairs and replacements.

Quality matters

The role of a high-quality screed is twofold – to provide a stable, level foundation and to enhance the adhesion of surface materials.

Proper mix ratios, curing processes and application techniques are critical in achieving a durable subfloor. Additionally, considerations such as moisture control and reinforcement techniques further contribute to the screed’s integrity.

Investing in a strong concrete screed is non-negotiable in an industry where precision and longevity matter. By prioritising high-quality screeding methods, contractors, designers and architects ensure that their flooring systems not only look exceptional, but also stand the test of time.

Strong concrete screeds are important because a flooring system is only as good as the concrete screed that supports it.
