With its stunning visuals and practical benefits, why is luxury vinyl sheeting (LVS) not more popular?
This article explores what makes this type of resilient flooring so appealing, its various forms and how to care for it.
What is LVS?
Vinyl flooring is a synthetic flooring option made primarily from polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It is designed to replicate the look of natural materials such as wood, stone or ceramic, providing a stylish alternative without the associated costs or maintenance.
LVS is a type of vinyl flooring that comes in large rolls, offering a seamless finish that enhances its elegance. This type of flooring is particularly beneficial in spaces where moisture resistance is vital, such as bathrooms, kitchens and basements.
It is important to allow for a smooth self-levelled subfloor to ensure a beautiful final installation of this type of flooring.
Rolls and sheets
- Vinyl flooring rolls: These are large, continuous sheets of vinyl that can be cut to fit any space. Ideal for creating a seamless look, vinyl rolls can be particularly useful in larger areas, reducing the number of seams and joints that can trap dirt and moisture. They offer a smooth, polished finish that can elevate the aesthetic of any room.
- Vinyl flooring tiles: Unlike rolls, vinyl tiles are pre-cut into specific sizes, which can be advantageous for smaller rooms. Both forms are quick to install and provide the same level of durability and resistance.
Benefits of LVS
- Durability: Resistant to scratches, stains and wear, making it perfect for high-traffic areas. This is particularly important in busy households or commercial spaces where flooring is subjected to heavy use.
- Moisture resistance: It is suitable for areas prone to spills and humidity. This allows for easy cleaning and maintenance, as spills can be wiped away.
- Versatile designs: Available in a wide variety of styles, patterns and colours. Achieving the look of natural wood or stone without the hefty price tag.
- Comfort underfoot: Compared to harder flooring options, vinyl sheeting offers a softer and warmer surface, making it comfortable to walk on.
Cleaning
Regular sweeping is best done with a soft-bristle broom or vacuum cleaner designed for hard floors, to remove dirt and debris. This prevents scratches and keeps the surface clean.
When deep cleaning, damp mop the floor using a mixture of warm water and a mild detergent. Avoid using harsh chemicals, as they can damage the vinyl’s finish.
For spot cleaning, quickly blot spills and the area around with a clean cloth. If necessary, use a gentle cleaner suitable for vinyl flooring to remove stains.
While vinyl is water-resistant, excessive moisture can seep into seams and edges. Use a well-wrung mop to prevent standing water.
