An innovative, intelligent, and internationally renowned product solution for residential and commercial exterior flooring is now available from Technical Finishes SA, BASF’s approved distributor.

Designed and manufactured by the global specialist chemical company BASF, Elastopave ® is a revolutionary paving product renowned for its unique ability to remain porous and non-clogging after installation, enabling sustainable benefits such as rainwater harvesting.

Smart Sustainable Collaborations

Thandeka Molakeng, Head of Sales EER Africa for BASF notes, while avoiding water during installation is critical, once set, “Elastopave’s® innovative chemical composition allows water to become its best friend, delivering value beyond the paving as it remains non-clogging and porous, enabling water to effectively permeate throughout the paving’s lifecycle.”

“One of the main reasons for our relationship with Technical Finishes is that they already have the relevant downstream value chain expertise and understand why it’s critically important to following the installation process. They know that as easy as installation is, it is vital to ensure that the product is treated correctly. For us, Technical Finishes meets all these requirements, and we are very pleased to partner with them to give this product the relevant exposure to the South African market.”

Ian Harrison, Managing Director for Technical Finishes says, “Technical Finishes is extremely proud to partner with BASF to offer the South African consumer the intelligent benefits achieved with Elastopave ®. The ease of application, durability and superior aesthetic value have been evident in Europe, Russia and the Middle East for some time, but the South African market has yet to experience the functional and sustainable square metre value that Elastopave® delivers.”

Strong water- and air-permeable surface

Elastopave’s® intelligent design exploits the principle of binding crushed stone and gravel in many different colours and grain sizes – ranging from 1.5mm to 10mm – with polyurethane to yield a strong water- and air-permeable surface. Elastopave offers an innovative and environmentally friendly solution for a variety of applications and can be applied directly to G5 stone.

Ian explains that the advantages of Elastopave are vast and to demonstrate its unique properties, Technical Finishes collaborated with BASF on a community project at Khatlamping Primary School in Tembisa where Elastopave will be used on 500m² of the outdoor surfaces. This school was identified by BASF as a pilot site for showcasing Elastopave’s transformative value as part of their community investment initiative.

One solution – boundless applications

Stone bonded with Elastopave® is suitable not only for paths and driveways, but also for any applications where crushed stone or gravel need firm bonding and in urban design such as:
• Indoor stone carpeting
• Sidewalks
• Bicycle lanes
• Park surfaces
• Patios
• Pedestrian zones
• Private traffic surfaces

The green benefits of this product could also be particularly beneficial in green design projects such as lifestyle estates and parking areas. As it can also be retrofitted, it enables conservation by eliminating downstream costs associated with fully sealed surfaces, e.g., wastewater charges.

“Being able to partner with an internationally recognised company such as BASF allows Technical Finishes SA to expand our offering to include upmarket concrete, asphalt or concrete screed solutions with unrivalled decorative and functional appeal,” concludes Ian.
