Isover South Africa offers a number of sustainable insulation solutions for industrial, commercial and residential applications.
Local thermal and acoustic insulation manufacturer, Isover, has been supplying the South African market with sustainable insulation for a number of years. The company focuses on reducing the environmental impact of their insulation products in all parts of the manufacturing process – from transport to disposal. Here are some of the sustainability benefits of specifying Isover’s insulation:
Buildings typically account for 40% of all energy consumed in countries. Isover South Africa is reducing the CO2 emissions of electricity from heating and cooling homes by investing in the latest technology.
Isover uses the state-of-the-art TEL fiberizing technology to improve the quality and performance of their insulation products. The company’s Glasswool, ULTIMATE and EPS insulation products are manufactured according to ISO 9001 Quality Management System standards and the Isover Springs plant achieved ISO 14001 environmental management certification in 2012.
Recycling materials to produce high-quality insulation
Glasswool is made from a combination of naturally occurring silica sand, fluxing agents and up to 80% recycled glass. Glasswool has a zero ozone-depleting potential (ODP), and no CFCs or HCFCs are produced during the production and manufacturing of Isover’s glasswool insulation.
Sustainability is further maximised by reducing the product’s transport costs. Glasswool can be compressed by a factor of up to five, which saves on storage and minimises the transportation needs of the product.
Indoor air quality
A further benefit of investing in Glasswool is the fact that it can improve the indoor air quality of the building. Glasswool has been tested according to ASTM D55116 “Standard guide for small-scale environmental chamber determinations of organic emissions from indoor material/products”. Glasswool is well below the minimum emissions level per mg/m2/hour as stipulated by the Green Building Council of South Africa.
If your brief includes reducing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are a major contributor to interior air pollution and have been linked to a number of health issues, then specifying a product such as Glasswool is an obvious solution.
Another one of Isover’s eco-minded products is Sagex, which is the company’s EPS division that manufactures a range of expanded polystyrene products. The product is recyclable and it offers a choice of lightweight, high compressive strength and water-resistant insulation solutions. Sagex EPS is manufactured using a pentane blowing agent, which ensures that the product is CFC- and HCFC-free, and it is used in industrial, commercial and domestic applications.
