Certain flooring products are specified most frequently due to the fact that they offer not only exceptional performance, but also superb finishes.
Epoxy flooring is described by Verni-Speciality Construction Products, manufacturers and specialist applicators of performance flooring systems, as the most common flooring specification. According to Vernon Botha, Managing Director, this floor type is a household name given to a broad range of resin flooring specifications.
“Excluding specifications for carpets, tiles or vinyl flooring, epoxy flooring is commonly specified due to a stereotype that goes with the look of a resin coating or screed. However, based on client requirements and the type of industry, a specific type of resin floor would be recommended to withstand the conditions it will be exposed to,” he adds.
Verni’s registered trademark product, “Supaflor”, encompasses their entire floor range, beginning with roll-on, thin-film coating systems that are epoxy and polyurethane based. These are suitable for lighter to medium traffic with medium chemical resistance suitable for floors and walls. Self-smoothing (commonly known as self-levelling) systems may either be epoxy or polyurethane resin based and offer a solution for medium traffic. They ensure a high-gloss finish typically applied in commercial flooring, showrooms and laboratories, while the polyurethane option offers a matt finish typically used in plant rooms and ablution blocks.
Verni’s more industrial-screeded system, which is typically polyurethane based, is suitable for medium to heavy traffic with excellent chemical and abrasion resistance, which can be applied to battery charging rooms, bottling lines, food processing plants, kitchens, cold/freezer rooms and offloading bays. Both epoxy and polyurethane flooring specifications require the joints of the concrete substrate to be followed; however, Verni has a seamless flooring solution too.
Their methacrylate flooring system (Verni-MMA) is the fastest-curing, seamless flooring solution suitable for industries where shutdown time is limited. This system cures in two hours, offering a matt satin finish which cures by polymerisation and can be applied on both horizontal and vertical areas.
