Durban is now home to the first photovoltaic (PV) solar plant and is probably the most advanced facility of its kind in Africa.

Vuka Floors is proud to have been part of the construction of this state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.

Naturally hygiene is of extreme importance in the construction of such a modern project, which was why it was decided to use specialist epoxy flooring systems throughout the 3 000m² manufacturing facility.

The Vuka Floors self-levelling, solvent-free epoxy floor coating system, Vuka Coat 301, was the system of choice. This system is a popular choice for many facilities requiring an attractive, resilient and robust surface with an impervious finish. All expansion and construction joints within the concrete were mirrored through the Vuka Coat 301 system and sealed with Vuka Flex joint sealant.

The ART Solar plant represents a significant private sector boost to the provincial government’s nascent plans to become a “green technology” sector.

Vuka Floors has also made commitments to ‘green’ practices, which have seen the exclusion of harmful solvent-based systems which were once the norm in resin flooring.

“At Vuka Floors we take our responsibility towards the environment very seriously and encourage the use of renewable technologies such as solar power. We are proud to have been involved in helping ART Solar establish what is claimed to be the largest and most modern PV-module fabrication plant in Africa,” said Michael Cook, managing member of Vuka Floors.
