Tile retailer Italtile, has announced its newest tile range, the Axis, which is an ode to the eternal presence and universality of sensual, sophisticated slate 

Destined to become a future classic, the Axis is inspired by natural Spanish slate. Manufactured by Rocersa in Spain, the tile range is exclusive to Italtile, 

Slate stone look inspiration 

The origins of slate lie in the ancient past, when mudstone and clay flakes were subjected to great pressure forces and metamorphosed into a unique “flake foliation”.  

With its pleasingly uneven and layered surface, slate has been used in exteriors and interiors for decades.  

As a popular choice for roofing and flooring in the mid-century modern aesthetic, slate has found its way to the top of the trend lists due to its fusion of earthiness and elegance.  

The Axis mimics the uniquely foliated character of this distinctive metamorphic rock and offers hardwearing durability.

Seamless elegance 

The 750 x 1 500mm matt porcelain tiles feature a rectified edge that has been mechanically cut, to ensure a straight edge and a uniform shape, which guarantees a consistent dimension from tile to tile.  

This process allows for extremely tight grout lines of about 1,5mm. This, in turn, creates wallscapes and floor spaces with a near-seamless and continuous appearance.  

An unbroken tiled surface creates a sense of spaciousness in both compact and large areas. Superior glazing techniques and digital graphics achieve extremely lifelike slate effects, with a silky texture.  

Axis range 

As the epitome of Spanish flair, the Axis range was created to enhance most interior and exterior spaces – from traditional to modernist, with five unique faces. The range carries a R10 rating, making it suitable for areas that are not subjected to excessive moisture.  

Choose from four shades: Axis White Matt, Axis Cream Matt, Axis Grey Matt and Axis Dark Matt.

Sustainability 

The Rocersa eco-protocols ensure that the range has been sustainably made with a recycled content of between 44% and 62%.  

The company’s factories are currently implementing the most modern energy exchange systems – these utilise heat from kilns to operate the driers for unfired tiles.
