The Heartfelt Arena is the largest four-star indoor event location in South Africa and comprises eight venues with the ability to host 4000 guests in a cinema setting, 1800 in a banquet setting and 8000 guests standing. Flowcrete was called upon for its expertise after the venue suffered fire damage and required a refurbishment, starting with the floors.
The arena required a flooring solution that was versatile, easy to clean and extremely hard wearing because of the types of events it hosts, which range from music concerts to exams. The composite surface FlowSport from Flowcrete South Africa was the chosen system for installation in the 3 600m² venue hall.
Hygiene and acoustic benefits
FlowSport provides a hardwearing, abrasion resistant and seamless finish that maintains a cushioned effect underfoot so it can take impacts in its stride. The joint free nature of the surface material means that the floor can be quickly cleaned, with no joints or gaps in the floor where dirt or germs can hide. Besides the hygienic benefits, accidental slips and trips over uneven joints are avoided.
An interesting feature of the flexible and cushioned coating is that it helps with acoustics, which will benefit the various music concerts that the venue hosts. The colour specified was Mid-Grey, which means a neutral base is maintained for the space, allowing for the various guests and event planners to use the area to its full potential.
