The popularity of polished concrete floors continues to rise thanks to an increasing number of people gravitating towards modern, crisp, luxury interiors. Darryl Gray, Director at Diamond Products, says that these floors offer a number of benefits, including affordability, desirable aesthetics, hygiene and versatility.

“A concrete floor is more cost-effective to lay and maintain, and it also boasts increased durability and strength when compared to conventional flooring options. Further savings can be achieved through the flooring’s light reflectivity, which leads to fewer artificial lights being needed in a building. Another benefit is that it doesn’t harbour dust or allergens,” says Darryl.

Once sealed, a concrete floor is stain and slip resistant, and can achieve a high-quality and aesthetically-pleasing polished finish, regardless of the age of the surface.

“With the wide range of finishes available, it does not come as a surprise that architects are specifying concrete floors in their designs. Both indoor and outdoor concrete flooring options are popular in the market and range from epoxy coatings to stains and paint,” says Darryl.

Darryl predicts further growth in the South African market as people continue to embrace the advantages that this floor structure has to offer.

“Restoration and refurbishment of concrete floors is another major area for growth,” he concludes.
