Launch of water-based enamel

Plascon Water-Based Super Universal Gloss Enamel was launched on 1 July 2022.

There is a myriad of good reasons to replace conventional oil-based enamels. The solvent that is used is turpentine, which has a strong smell, is flammable, and can be harmful to those living or working in a just-painted surrounding.

Oil-based vs water-based paint

Oil-based paints take much longer to dry and tend to dry to a much harder degree, which means it can become dry and brittle. A water-based product has superior elasticity, allowing the painted materials to contract and expand as they heat and cool – versus the often-chalky breakdown of an inflexible oil-based paint. It is dry to the touch in as little as 30 minutes and boasts a superior scratch-resistant feature in the mix.

Other standout features include hardwearing, having a high-gloss finish, non-yellowing, APEO free, low VOC, low odour, and humans and the planet will benefit from water-based surfaces that continue to look smart and sorted for a very long time.

Because it is water-based, Plascon Water-Based Super Universal Gloss Enamel can resist ultraviolet (UV) rays – making it suitable for the outside areas of a home or building, which are subject to a high degree of sunlight. The product will also retain sheen levels and colour over many years.

Plascon Water-Based Super Universal Gloss Enamel has a nine-year guarantee on both interior and exterior surfaces. It provides a superior level of weather resistance and an ideal protective coating on gutters, doors, trims, walls and gates.
