curing agent

Global leaders in construction chemicals, Sika and BASF, have introduced Baxxodur® EC 151, a groundbreaking amine-based curing agent for epoxy resins.

Available under BASF’s Baxxodur® brand, it is revolutionising epoxy coatings.

Designed for high-performance flooring applications, the product is ideal for production plants, storage and assembly halls, and parking decks.

Unmatched benefits

  • Improved viscosity and flow properties enhance epoxy flooring solutions, ensuring easy application and a smooth, even finish.
  • Ultra-low volatile organic compound (VOC) formulations of up to 90% less than conventional hardeners make it a game changer for environmentally conscious construction projects.
  • Greater use of mineral fillers reduces overall costs while enhancing sustainability.

Reliability in challenging conditions

Baxxodur® EC 151 ensures quick and thorough curing across a broad temperature range, making it particularly effective in colder conditions.

Standard hardeners struggle at 5-10°C, but this product reduces the drying time by up to two-thirds. Therefore floors can be walked on soon after application, increasing efficiency on construction sites.

Glossy, stable, durable aesthetics

Epoxy coatings formulated with Baxxodur® EC 151 offer a glossy, colour-stable finish without the clouding or hazing (“blushing”) commonly seen with conventional hardeners.

The result is a long-lasting, visually appealing surface that withstands mechanical and chemical stresses while minimising maintenance costs.

Resource saving collaboration

This breakthrough is the result of a strong collaboration between Sika and BASF.

Sika developed the amine building block to optimise epoxy formulations, while BASF engineered and scaled up the manufacturing process.

“This development is a major step towards resource-saving construction,” says Urs Burckhardt, head of research at Sika.

“By working closely with BASF, we have created a solution that enables our customers to meet their efficiency and sustainability goals more effectively.”

Vasilios Galanos, senior vice-president, Intermediates Europe, at BASF, adds: “Our collaboration with Sika combines expertise in chemistry and scalable, cost-efficient processes to deliver sustainable innovations.”

The new Baxxodur® EC 151 curing agent for epoxy resins has a superior, stable finish in a sustainable, resource efficient product
