In exemplifying their vigorous approach to business and design, Boogertman + Partners Architects recently celebrated 30 years of successful practice. The architectural firm chose rejuvenation and sustainability as the themes of the evening. To highlight the importance of these concepts in design, they used organic beverages, food sourced within a 30km radius of the event and even recyclable and biodegradable utensils. Each and every detail of the evening captured the practice’svision of Excellence by Design.
Boogertman + Partners has created an identity that has shaped itself through space and time. In order to maintain their competitive edge in an increasingly technologically- and sustainably-driven environment, the practice has implemented three big ventures which were announced by one of the company’s directors, Frits Schuite, in his opening speech.
Having been involved in a variety of projects on both a macro and micro scale, Boogertman + Partners have subsequently purchased 50% of Geyser Hahn Architects, a niche architectural practice specialising in the medical field. One of the reasons behind this decision highlights the company’s mission to continually broaden its spectrum of expertise. “This mutually beneficial agreement will enable Boogertman + Partners as well as Geyser Hahn Architects to offer our clients exceptional expertise, skill, capacity and back-up for medical-related projects from clinics, day hospitals and specialised medical units to large hospitals,” Schuite explains.
Investing in the future
Schuite also announced that Boogertman + Partners will be expanding their offices to cater for the needs of a growing market across Africa, Mauritius and the Middle East. “Africa is poised for tremendous growth in the next decade,” he says. “In order to maintain the quality of service offered to our clients from the inception to the completion of projects, our South African based practice is in the process of fertilising new soils as it is set to open its doors in Kenya, Nairobi.”
Whilst heralding opportunities that fast-track Boogertman + Partners into a prosperous future, they have been advocates of embracing and uplifting the local community through numerous social upliftment schemes, skills development and business programmes since 2007. “During the re-investment process, a positive and constructive relationship developed and has culminated in a 20% BEE ownership transaction between us and Life College,” he says. This gave the practice a Level 4 BEE rating on the Construction-Built Environment Professionals scorecard.
According to Schuite, Life College hones the development of a champion mentality through character education, real life projects and leadership education to the youth, families, companies and government. “The foresight to embrace opportunities and re-invest back into the community, coupled with the scope of expertise, skills and their extraordinary creativity, positions Boogertman + Partners as one of Africa’s leading architectural practices,” he concludes.
