Recap: “Cape Town: The Mother City of the Future”

Just two weeks after the WALLS & ROOFS in Africa and FLOORS in Africa roadshow travelled through Cape Town, we returned for our second annual CPD event in the Mother City. Held on 25 July 2018 at the Marriott Hotel Crystal Towers in Century City, delegates earned 0,7 CPD points for attending interesting talks by several renowned speakers.
Roelof Rabe, principal director at Roelof Rabe Architects, spoke about designing higher education facilities, visualising the libraries of the future and using a bio-medical research facility as an example.

Having won the Greenovate Engineering Award in 2017, Craig Flanagan spoke about his award-winning project, which was focused on developing an on-site nutrient recovery urinal for buildings.

Pieter Cronje, an international consultant in communication, marketing and business growth, advised attendees on how to stand out by discussing six powerful tools that can boost a business.

A favourite from last year’s event, Dr Luyanda Mpahlwa, director and design principal at DesignSpaceAfrica, returned to talk about socially inclusive spatial planning to realise sustainable neighbourhoods and cities, of course with a focus on Cape Town.

Representing the Western Cape Government, Edwin Bath, deputy director at the Department of Transport and Public Works, spoke about driving water and energy efficiency.

Henry Raubenheimer, director at CEHERA Coaching, gave an inspiring talk on how the attendees can design their own futures, while Zoë Palmer, senior consultant for the environment and planning at Aurecon, addressed “Engineering: Re-imagineered”.

As the platinum and gold sponsors, Rigifoam (suppliers of Lambdaboard), Marley Building Systems, Flowcrete and Belgotex also presented their offerings to the audience as part of the programme, while in the foyer, exhibitions by all twelve the sponsors gave attendees the chance to meet with representatives and learn about a wide range of products all under one roof.
