Discover some of the Belgotex products favoured by three interior architects situated in Cape Town, and how these service their clients.

Established in 2001 by Doug Else and Cobus Vermaak, Decam Projects prides itself on offering turnkey corporate design, architecture, furniture and project management solutions that enables its clients to continue with their core business activities, while Decam Projects ensures that their projects are completed on-time, to detail and specification and within the agreed budget.

Decam Projects is comprised of a team of passionate individuals who thrive on growing the company and ensuring excellence through customer satisfaction. The team has in excess of 50 years’ experience in design, office furniture, construction and project management. FLOORS in Africa spoke with Simone Linossi, Carly Warren and Ruth Swailes, Interior Architects at Decam Projects, to highlight some of the projects that they have worked on, and how Belgotex Floorcoverings’ product offering aids them in achieving their design goals.

“We aim to deliver on a clients’ every need, from brief to conception, from electrical drawings to flooring, Decam Projects does it all,” enthuses Simone. “Our business is primarily sourced through word-of-mouth, as clients who are delighted with our work tend to recommend us.”

Decam Projects has had a busy year-and-a half to date, making 2013 and 2014 an exciting one for the company. They have been involved in several projects such as Tullow Oil (South Africa), Serco Call Centre, Jupiter Drawing Room, PSG and Times Media, Old Mutual, to name but a few. Decam Projects focuses primarily on the corporate environment, which translates into them servicing clients with their offices’ interior architecture.

According to Simone, Decam Projects primarily uses Belgotex Commercial carpet range on many of their projects. “We predominantly use grey as the colour for all specified carpets as it forms the basis for the interior space and creativity that the company wants to roll out,” she explains.

Decam Projects were chosen to provide turnkey interior designing solutions for PSG in their Constantia and Tyger Valley offices. The product used was Metro in Sky Grey, which Simone highlights is a product that lends itself to an interesting pattern and a budget friendly option. The range is known for its superior, unsurpassed and cost effective qualities, while offering a unique, linear design and a range of nine colours. Furthermore, Metro carpet tiles add elegance to any heavy commercial floorcovering environment.

The Metro range offers two types of backings, namely the ResinBac Tiles and the NexBac Eco Tiles. Both are constructed of structured needlepunch with a stainproof miracle fibre (Polypropylene) and Stainproof Eco Fibre Blend. The Metro range is advised for heavy commercial use, making it ideal for offices. Its ResinBac tiles are 7mm thick while the NexBac Eco Tiles are 8.5mm thick.

In the executive areas, they opted for the Everest range to allow for a more sophisticated look and feel. Everest carpet tiles are made of Econyl which is a 100% solution dyed recycled Nylon and a gradient design manufactured with Infinity technology. This textured, loop pile carpet tile is hardwearing and ideal for all corporate, commercial carpet tile applications. It has a pile height of roughly 3.5mm and a thickness of roughly 7mm.

Carly highlights another interesting project that Decam Projects completed, namely Ricoh SA printing company. “We specified Metro as the entry-level carpet, as Metro provided for an excellent price to suit the company’s budget, it is a great range and as already noted, offers interesting and exciting designs,” she continues. “We used Sky Grey and Moon Rock as the project’s colour palette. The different colours enable us to demarcate walkways and office areas.”

Carly goes on to say that they specified Westminster for Ricoh’s boardroom areas. “Westminster is a popular choice for that desired plush feeling, and in other projects, we have even used this carpet range and made rugs out of it,” she enthuses. “It also works well as an inlay to create a special design, making Westminster a fantastic contract specification with a wonderful colour range.”

Westminster is a wall to wall offering from Belgotex Commercial. Westminster is an elegant wall to wall, cut pile commercial carpet that offers lush softness underfoot. Its 100% SDX (Solution Dyed Nylon) fibres make Westminster ideal for demanding hospitality, corporate and other demanding commercial flooring applications. It offers a wide range of available colour options with excellent sound absorption properties. It offers a 7mm pile height with a total thickness of 9.5mm.

For this project, they also imported porcelain tiles and used luxury vinyl tiles for the kitchen.

Simone, Carly and Ruth are all in agreement that Belgotex offers excellent client service through various means, and more specifically, they service Decam Projects most efficiently through their samples.

“We work very closely with Albert Carpets on sourcing of samples as well as when installing flooring products,” notes Simone. “The service from Albert Carpets has been superb, and again, we are finding the samples from Belgotex Commercial absolutely brilliant. The samples are easy to work with and an added bonus is that they are extremely efficient when presenting to potential clients.”

Carly adds that choosing carpeting is very dependent on stock availability and costing. “Flooring choices are functional and serves as a basis for an interior space,” she continues. “It is the canvas onto which the other interior elements are designed, and Decam Projects is also eager for new ideas and sources many of these ideas in magazines and by meeting with new suppliers once a week. We also turn to internet sites for new ideas.”

Once these ideas are formulated, sampling is crucial, as it gives the potential client a first-hand experience of the product specified. This is where Belgotex is key and always exceeds expectation.

Decam Projects definitely favours Belgotex’s Metro and Westminster range. “Firstly, Metro provides for great patterning and colour options at low prices, that enables us to offer our clients the best in quality without jeopardising a client’s budget,” says Ruth. “In turn, Westminster offers that plush and slightly shiny, luxurious feel. We also favour a specific colour in the Belgotex Vinyl range, namely Barnwood, which is a colour and pattern offering from the Hartsfield range. This unique colouring is very popular and looks incredible once it’s been installed. ”

Hartsfield commercial grade floor is available in an array of colors, textures and sizes that meet the design and style needs of a diverse clientele with a broad range of commercial applications.

With the performance and durability of resilient flooring, the Hartsfield collection can be used in healthcare facilities, education institutions, retail stores, corporate offices and more, providing commercial performance, realistic design and texture as well as a 10 year commercial warranty.

According to Simone, Duraturf’s artificial turf (grass) offering was another very successful flooring application specified by Decam Projects. “These artificial grass ranges create interesting spaces,” she explains. “We once installed it in a ‘chill area’ in an office, and the client thoroughly enjoyed the ability to have an indoor put-put course at work!”

These passionate interior architects conclude by highlighting that their clients expect their flooring to last and Decam Projects ensures that they specify correctly to ensure that they meet this demand in abundance.
