A massive project is underway and set to make a prominent impact in terms of its interior décor and memorable flooring installations.
The multi-million rand development of Silverstar, is progressing significantly as planned and visitors are already seeing some interior changes taking effect. Taking its design cue directly from the scenic foothills of Roodekrans Ridge that surround Silverstar, the development is all about celebrating the great outdoors.
“The design concept has been inspired by nature, creating a contemporary design with warm, earthy tones and natural materials to generate a soothing, yet sophisticated atmosphere, which links the relationship between the interior and exterior spaces,” says Shane Collinson, Director of Operations and Complex General Manager at Silverstar.
A sprucing-up exercise of some of the design elements has included lowering the chandeliers to create a defined and more dramatic entrance, and replacing the flower carpet in the entrance lobby with a geometric marble insert that is practical in such a high-traffic area and that also accentuates the existing marble colours.
In addition, the entire gaming floor and internal complex are being aesthetically refreshed to complement and bring together the theme of the development, while the existing casino lobbies and walkways will also be refurbished.
The vibrant new carpet designs that are set to line the casino walkways have an interesting story to tell. They are a blend of wool (for natural soiling resistance) and nylon (for durability) and were custom designed based on a stylised interpretation of a nebular galaxy. The organic, free-flowing lines and circles in the custom-designed carpets complement the sweeping, wave-like paint effects that are planned for the ceiling of the cinema lobby and are repeated in the unique, multi-coloured Plexiglass sculpture of twisted ribbon shapes for the casino lobby.
Regular visitors will recognise architectural elements from the previous Silverstar design, but new façades and spaces are going to change the overall feel of the entertainment complex to a light, transparent and continuous arena that brings nature in and subtly expands the floor area in order to cater for all the exciting additions to the facilities.
The new carpets are manufactured by Nouwens Custom Weave and installed by Professional Carpet Installations.
The specified range, namely Axminster, comprises 80% wool and 20% nylon and is manufactured in the form of bitumen-backed 900mm x 900mm carpet tiles. Developed over 250 years ago, Axminster carpeting is a traditional woven method of manufacturing custom designed carpets synonymous with beauty, long-term durability and crisp, clearly rendered patterns that are ideal for the hospitality sector.
The following areas with quantities of carpet were installed:
• Casino floor (smoking and non-smoking): 3 634.00m²
• Salon Privé: 957.00m²
• Walkways: 482.20m²
The detail that has gone and is still going into the Silverstar project is both unique and memorable. It will undoubtedly serve its purpose to produce a harmonious environment that creates an exciting and comfortable experience for all those who visit the Silverstar premises.
