A beautiful building requires specialists to achieve beautiful end results, which is exactly what this architectural firm and its associate specialists achieved.

Founded in 1994, Hofman Architects started in a small home-based office and has grown over the years to become the full professional architectural practice it is today. Run by Tony and Marinda Hofman, a husband-and-wife team, the entire practice focuses on providing a hands-on professional service, tailor-made to suit the specific needs of the clients.

Hofman Architects have worked on numerous prestigious projects, and Tony says that they focus primarily on commercial projects, space planning, interior design, as well as luxury upmarket homes and commercial projects. “After the economic tough times the country had experienced, we restructured accordingly and are proud of the current team we have. They are motivated and excited to take our business forward,” he notes.

Hofman Architects were selected by Citadel, who moved to the new office development of Lynnwood Bridge, to create an office environment by making use of products that would enable employees to connect with, and feel in harmony with, their surroundings. “The building is made up of three floors, with a total floor area of roughly 3 000m²,” explains Andri Verwey, an architect at Hofman Architects. “We were responsible for the interior architecture and space planning.” According to Tony, space planning is like a puzzle. Everything has to fit in – all the departments and all the employees.

Andri says that 389m² of Westminster from Belgotex Floors Commercial Carpets was specified for the front of house areas, such as the reception area, meeting rooms, video conferencing rooms and pause areas. They made use of the Iron Stone, Peat and Cool Lava colour options to match the design needs of the selected flooring spaces. “These darker colour options are ideal for hardwearing areas as they don’t easily show stains or wearing,” explains Andri. She adds that they used the different colours to define the design of a central strip, aligning with the plasma unit and recessed ceiling in the meeting room, for example.

For Citadel’s office spaces, they specified 1 635m² of Belgotex NEXUS Custom X Carpet Tile, opting for a linear pattern. “Belgotex carpet tiles formed the base for the offices,” explains Tony. “Each floor had a theme. For example, one floor had an orange theme to match the company’s logo and two other floors were yellow and green.”

“With the offices’ carpet tiles we wanted to go for a dynamic carpet that created the illusion of movement, whereas front of house required more neutral and sophisticated looks,” reinforces Andri.

Why Belgotex Floors?
Tony highlights that they turn to Belgotex Floors due to their absolutely flawless service offering which cannot be compared. “We only ever have effortless experiences with Belgotex Floors,” he continues. “For example, we once worked on a project and we accidentally specified the wrong colour carpeting for that project. Everything had already been delivered to the building site. We immediately turned to Belgotex, who were then able to use the carpets at our site on another project in Pretoria who were desperate for carpeting as they were on deadline themselves.”

Andri adds that Belgotex Floors is also local and is able to provide customised carpets, which is of great value to them on several projects. “The products we used in Citadel are hardwearing and not overly expensive, while at the same time they look beautiful and professional, and have a long lifespan,” she says.

Both Tony and Andri add that Belgotex always comes to the party with samples, and commercial sales manager Phillip Button does a phenomenal job and is an excellent representative of what Belgotex stands for.

Favourite Products
Tony and Andri agree that they favour Westminster as it is a more plush carpet, while Berber Point will always remain popular. While it may not be as plush, it is hardwearing, aesthetically appealing, has a long lifespan and serves its environment well.

Berber Point 920 is considered the undisputed heavyweight champion, now with recycled content. It offers a choice of 27 colours with seven new colours to choose from. It is also a good-looking, resilient solution for any commercial eco-friendly flooring application.

Its durability and hardwearing performance have been proven worldwide, making it the standard against which other commercial carpet tile flooring is judged. This superior product is available in broadloom or as convenient ResinBac or NexBac Eco carpet tiles. Its construction type is structured Needlepunch and its fibre type is Stainproof Miracle fibre (Polypropylene) and Stainproof Eco Fibre Blend.

The end result of this building immediately creates a beautifully professional yet natural environment that is niche yet functional and comfortable, thereby serving both the needs of the client and the goals of Hofman Architects.
