A well-known entrepreneur from Kwa-Zulu Natal, Dawood Vawda, is opening The Square Shopping Centre in Ladysmith. This centre will house his third Mica franchise. Being the owner and developer of the centre, Vader had a vested interest in ensuring that premium products were used throughout the construction project.

Sika’s new tile adhesive range, SikaCeram-200 Porcelain, as well as porcelain adhesive products for tiles were specified for all the centre’s walls and floors. Completing a total of 11 880m² of floor and wall tile area, this is the largest tile adhesive project for Sika SA to date.

Mervyn Naidoo, Sika’s Regional Manager, was on site to offer sound advice on correct applications and products for the specified requirements.

“SikaCeram-200 Porcelain is a single component, pre-packed tile adhesive mortar, combining cement with selected grades of sand and synthetic polymers. SikaCeram-200 Porcelain Tile adhesive is easily mixed with water to produce a smooth, thixotropic, tile adhesive for thin or thick-bed application,” says Mervyn.

Cemflex (250lt), an acrylic based emulsion was specified for waterproofing the outside walkways and entrance. The product improves the water resistance and adhesion of Portland cement-based composites and was chosen for its ease of application and efficacy.

Other Sika products indicated included Sikaflex*PRO-3, a multipurpose floor joint sealant suitable for movement and connection joints in floors; Sika Latex*, a synthetic rubber emulsion, specified for minor patch repairs; and Sikalastic-560, a one component liquid applied waterproofing membrane, to waterproof the flat roofs of the power station room.

Sika’s high quality products were essential for the contractor to complete this project in the specified 12-month period.
