In a collaborative effort to prioritise children’s safety while enhancing the play environment, Curro Holdings has chosen PLAYSaFE Wet Pour rubber flooring for its school campuses throughout South Africa.
This forward-thinking decision reflects a growing commitment to compliant, impact-absorbing playground surfaces that go beyond functionality to support creativity and well-being.
Specialist contractor Over the Edge, led by James Carr, was appointed to carry out the installations.
Location-specific designs
Each installation was site-specific and design-driven by Timothy Snyders of Truform Landscape Architects, seamlessly integrating landscape architecture with safety standards.

Each school received a bespoke design, as shown at Curro Douglasdale.
Flooring system
The wet-pour system installed by Over the Edge comprises a resilient shock-pad layer placed strategically beneath jungle gyms and equipment at critical fall heights, ensuring children are protected during play. This base layer is topped with vibrant, pre-coloured wear layers made from SBR or EPDM rubber, enhancing visual appeal while remaining durable and weather resistant.
In total, 960 square metres of PLAYSaFE surface were installed across the three campuses, transforming ordinary playgrounds into safe, sensory-rich spaces for learning and exploration.

Curro Riverside’s playground creates visual interest and provides safety for the children.
Jeremy Stewart, Managing Director of PLAYSaFE and Chairman of SASPI, praised the quality of the installations: “The standard of workmanship shown on these playgrounds by Over the Edge exceeds international standards and sets the bar even higher for the global industry.”
As a leader in playground safety and author of South Africa’s Code of Practice for wet pour systems, Stewart’s endorsement highlights the significance of these projects.

Curro Aurora’s playground offers protection at critical fall heights.
This partnership between Curro, PLAYSaFE, and Over the Edge stands as a benchmark in educational infrastructure – where design, safety, and innovation play side by side.
“Completed over a six-month period, these projects were an opportunity to transform playgrounds into colourful, safe and unique spaces,” concludes Carr.
Issue: Crafting safe, colourful playgrounds for schools.
Solution: PLAYSaFE Wet Pour allows design freedom with robust shock pads under critical fall heights.
