Strong demand for rugged and durable machines is driving sales of locally manufactured walk-behind rollers in the construction industry, especially among plant and equipment hire companies.
Since the beginning of the year sales of locally produced Vipac walk-behind rollers have more than quadrupled thanks to demand for more rugged machines. Built in Kempton Park by HA Plant, these rollers are built to last and have a long reputation for durability and reliability.
Although recent cheap imports from the East and sophisticated equipment from Europe and America have impacted on sales, Clifford Altendorfer, general manager of HA Plant, says clients are returning to Vipac.
“We have recently experienced a big rush of customers back to our brand. Most admit to trying out the options available to them, but have returned due to the quality issues relating to cheap imports. On the other end of the scale they found the overly sophisticated operation of the European and American machines tricky in local conditions.
“We are particularly pleased to note that our customers in the plant and equipment rental business are renewing their fleets with our machines. It serves as proof that machines that are built by South Africans for South Africans are still the best option when high performance and reliability is required,” he says.
