The exterior flooring of a project, whether it’s a large commercial building or a single residential unit, can have a massive impact on everything from the overall aesthetic of the project to the project budget. Darryl Gray, Director of Diamond Products (Pty) Ltd, says it is for this reason that there are a number of things to consider when specifying an exterior floor.
“You need to inspect the site to ascertain what the surface consists of, whether the ground is stable and if any additional support or reinforcement will be necessary. Furthermore, the type of floor that the end-user requires will determine the way forward with regards to surface preparation, materials and the overall programme,” says Darryl.
As a supplier to contractors, Diamond Products has visited sites where the exterior flooring was done as an afterthought. Although there are many options to correct this, a number of problems could have been avoided with proper planning at the concept stage.
“In order to have a long lasting exterior floor, any prospective client has to realise that a successful exterior floor starts before any construction starts,” concludes Darryl.
