Viva Magenta 18-1750 TCX, a vibrant crimson red representing joy, experimentation and self-expression, is Pantone’s new colour of the year, welcoming you to the Magentaverse.

It is brave and fearless, a colour promoting optimistic celebration. It is powerful and empowering and encourages experimentation and self-expression – a boundaryless shade making a bold statement.

Relevance to us

According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute, says: “In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. Pantone 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.” Viva Magenta reconnects you to original matter, invoking the forces of nature, galvanising your spirit and helping you to build your inner strength.

The universal language of colour

Pantone is a colour-matching system used all over the globe since 1963 to resolve colour-matching issues in the printing industry.

In 2000, Pantone created the Pantone colour of the year as a way of forecasting trends in the design industry and is the number one method for choosing and matching colours. Since then, the announcement of the colour of the year is highly anticipated and chosen based on colour trends and influences in fields as diverse as fashion, marketing, travel, entertainment and politics.

Psychology of colour

The anticipated Pantone 2023 colour of the year, Viva Magenta 18-1750, makes a bold statement. This colour is not just a shade or tint, it is an expression of emotion and individuality. Eiseman says: “In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. This colour is one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family and the strongest and brightest the world has known.”

Energise your home

Every colour has its own associations, context and energy which sets the tone for your home, evoking attitudes and emotions.

Viva Magenta, a brave and vibrant colour, fills a space with warmth and energy, even if it’s just incorporated in small accents, which may be the ideal for this warm colour. Especially in a room with neutrals it is ideal to incorporate this energetic pink to liven up the atmosphere and set a bold trend. For instance, add a dramatic rug for a splash of brightness. According to Sarah Jacquelyn Interiors, the Oscar Isberian pink and purple rug will do the trick.

Magenta magic

Another way to incorporate the colour of the year that is a more lasting way, is to add some magic to your kitchen with Cosmopolitan Quartzite, a natural stone in a vibrant red as supplied by Terrazzo & Marble. By incorporating this high-spirited colour there is no need to add or change anything else as this will be the focal point of any modern kitchen.
