Situated close to the popular Duque beach on the Costa del Sol (Spain), the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella has recently undergone a complete renovation process, the work of the prestigious interior design studio Cuarto Interior. The project’s second and final phase included the creation of the stunning Roof Top, which includes a bar and pool featuring an exceptional glass mosaic tile design by ONIX. The highly acclaimed hotel, owned by Stoneweg Hospitality and operated by Palladium Hotel Group, has 383 rooms and suites and seeks to create a thrilling atmosphere for adults to the rhythm of fabulous sounds, in line with the hotel chain’s vision and mission.

For this major renovation project, interior designers Germán Álvarez and José Manuel Fernández opted to pay tribute to Spain’s swinging sixties, known as the yé-yé movement from the English “yeah, yeah!”, and which sought to live life to the full, doing away with impositions and rules.

A pool inspired by the Ye-Yé movement

The roof top of the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella features a magnificent T-shaped pool. Glass mosaic tiles by  ONIX were used to create a series of patterns in the basin, forming rounded shapes and straight lines that emulate the groovy music of the day.

Cuarto Interior created a large space around the pool furnished with sunbeds, loungers and awnings enabling each guest to tailor their experience as they wish. In contrast to the more private areas for relaxation, there is also a bar created in pure 60s style and a stage that any artist would be proud to perform on.

Cuarto Interior custom-designed the pool pattern using ONIX mosaic tiles

For the pool basin lining, the interior designers chose an ONIX glass mosaic tile in Alice blue and Maya blue tones that was custom-made for the project. The small 25*25 mm square tiles were used to trace a series of patterns that reflect the trends of the sixties. The matt finish mosaic chips guarantee a non-slip surface.

Every detail of the room décors reflects the style of the freedom-loving sixties that shunned conventionalisms. The same is true of the pool area, with its mix of curves and straight lines and a blue, orange and red colour scheme featuring pops of gold.

This project has successfully revived the heyday of the Costa del Sol in the 1960s, recreating the sense of freedom and rebelliousness that were characteristic of the day. A place where music and fun always come first.

The originality and design of this project have earned it a nomination for the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards and the International Hotel & Property Awards 2023.
