Sika SA opened their new Gauteng premises at 4 Skietlood Street, Isando, on 28th August 2013. The Gauteng team, which services the greater GP area as well as the Limpopo, North West and Mpumalanga provinces, had outgrown their existing premises and was in need of a larger warehouse.
The new premises have a much-improved working environment with a systematic and orderly warehouse, a concrete laboratory and a one-stop display of Sika’s comprehensive range of flooring products. There are also private business/conference facilities with Wi-Fi for customers’ use, in-house training facilities and a large seminar room.
Another motivating factor for the move was to obtain extra space to accommodate Sika’s new Powder Plant that is due for completion in January 2014. This state-of-the-art powder plant offers a production capability of up to 20 000 tons per annum and therefore Sika SA will also be able to service South Africa’s border countries. Sika also intends the new plant to be providing liquid production by mid-2014.
Approximately 250 guests were given a short tour of the new offices and a presentation of the Sika products that had been applied in some of the rooms. Also on display were Sika’s new Comfort Floor and Deco Floor products which have already been applied by Sika International floor specialists and will be launched in South Africa in 2014.
Shaun Saxby, Sika SA Head Target Market Manager of Waterproofing, Refurbishment, Roofing and Flooring, welcomed guests to the launch and introduced Paul Adams, Sika SA Managing Director. Adams offered a special welcome to international guests before introducing Jan Jenisch, who gave a brief overview of Sika’s current worldwide position and the advancements Sika is experiencing globally.
Adams delivered the main presentation, outlining the phenomenal growth that Sika has achieved in the past 12 months up to July 2013, with a 28% growth year on year.
He also highlighted the other recent Sika branch openings around South Africa – in Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and Bloemfontein – demonstrating the significance of Sika SA’s progress.
Following the formalities, guests were treated to some continental festivities as Sika had chosen to celebrate the Gauteng opening with a traditional Beer Fest theme. Everyone was given a beer mug or wine glass and invited to sample a variety of beers and wine. There were beer maids dressed in typical Austro-German beer maid outfits offering guests more beer and snacks. A full buffet dinner was served and a genuine Oompah band entertained guests far into the evening. It was a fun-filled, memorable evening indeed, as many guests remarked!
