Being proactive in terms of insulation and thermal control when building energy-efficient home or office spaces in the current economic climate, is one of the most important factors to keep in mind in the planning stage.
The new Saint-Gobain Weber External Thermal Insulation Composite System (ETICS) is an exterior cladding system that consists of a series of engineered expanded polystyrene (EPS) panels, a waterproof membrane, a reinforcing cement Base Coat and a mineral or polymeric finish plaster, all of which combine to exceed the R-values set out in SANS 204.
Property owners may have little control over the ever increasing cost of energy, however, they can meaningfully reduce the amount of energy required to control the climate in homes and offices. The impressive insulation properties of Weber’s ETICS system will prove to be ever more telling should electricity prices continue to increase at the current pace.
Weber ETICS will be able to reduce energy wastage by significantly reducing a building’s heating and cooling costs.
The panel can be fixed to an existing or new substrate. Weber Base Coat with mesh reinforcement is applied to the EPS and once cured, a final decorative render is applied to finish the system.
Weber’s decorative render is available in a variety of colours, sizes and textures all ready-mixed and matched to the client’s specification. Renders are applied by trowel and are waterproof and highly durable.
Further reductions in the heavy design loads on the edge of slabs can be achieved if ETICS is applied in conjunction with a lightweight steel frame structure (LSF). This is an important factor to take into account when determining the savings that can be achieved using Weber ETICS, which only weighs 60 kg/m² as opposed to double-brick work that weighs approximately 450 kg/m².
ETICS boasts various advantages such as improved air-tightness of the building and substantial increases in the thermal performance of a building. Savings are achieved on installation time and can drastically reduce the construction time on projects.
Savings achieved through the installation of ETICS far exceed the initial additional cost incurred at the time of installation, which makes it a worthwhile, smart investment in the tense energy-conscious environment of today.
Features and advantages of Weber ETICS:
