Having started his career as a production trainee at Corobrik in 1980, Nick Booth has once again joined this brickmaking company, this time as deputy managing director responsible for sales and marketing.
Booth has worked in the refractory industry since 1992 and joined Ceramic Industries in 1998, where he was promoted to chief executive officer in 2001. He also had a stint as chief executive officer at Italtile from July 2014. During his tenure, both companies registered strong and consistent growth.
His new role requires sales focussed re-assessment of the business from a product development and production planning level. “What I bring is a holistic understanding of the building materials supply industry, not just the clay-brick industry,” he states.
Not ascribing to the general negative sentiment and low business confidence that are shackling many South African businesses, Booth points out that challenging times offered special opportunities. “You just have to work harder and look a little narrower to find them. With our depth of knowledge and position in the market and with good leadership, we will be able to make best use of those opportunities. So, this is exciting,” he adds.
“I am very pleased to welcome Nick back to Corobrik and look forward to growing the business together,” says Corobrik’s managing director, Dirk Meyer. “As the business grows, we will look at expanding into new operations and new types of building products that will give the business an even bigger base.”
