Italian elegance conquers Amsterdam Hotel

The Emilian Brand is back in the City of Canals, decorating the exterior spaces of the nhow RAI hotel in Amsterdam with their latest Italian collection, which has become synonymous with their flair for elegance and practicality.

In the heart of Amsterdam’s Zuidas business district, one of Europe’s main creative areas, Ceramiche’s Refin collection was chosen to clad the outdoor spaces of the prestigious Amsterdam nhow RAI hotel, designed by the internationally renowned OMA – Office for Metropolitan Architecture’s leading architect, Reinier de Graaf.

Beautiful blue exteriors
The spectacular hotel’s many terraces were paved with Refin Blue Emotion Flammé Blue. The OUT2.0 tiles – 2cm thick and 90x90cm in size – were applied using the raised installation method on supports. Given the considerable height and variations, the installation should have been challenging, but the professional service of Kerastone, in collaboration with Van Beek Tegelprojecten, ensured an effortless installation.

Directly inspired by the dark tones of the Belgian Pierre Bleue or Petit Granit-Pierre Bleue, which is a 100% natural limestone mined exclusive in Belgium’s region of Soignies, the Blue Emotion line delivers the charm associated with a sober surface while simultaneously being intimately connected to the material. The Blue Emotion line conveys a strong sense of quality, cleanliness and robustness while being extremely striking.

Triangular Terraces
OMA designed the three triangular volumes that form as part of the spectacular nhow Amsterdam RAI. They were constructed on top of a transparent plinth and rotated relative to each other. These rotations were made above the tenth and seventeenth floors and result in triangular projections up to twelve metres long. Six triangular terraces were created on the roofs of the tenth and seventeenth floors.

OMA’s design inspiration came from Het Signaal, the illustrious advertising column located next to the RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre, made of several triangular blocks placed on top of each other. With a height of 91 metres, 650 rooms on 24 floors, an event space, meeting and conference rooms and a restaurant, the striking nhow Amsterdam RAI building is the largest hotel in the Benelux.

Ceramiche Refin’s stoneware was the ideal choice, as it can withstand sudden temperature changes and wear, is resistant to mould and moss. OUT2.0, specially designed for outdoor use, guarantees maximum resistance to stress and tensile strength and is ideally suited to any outside area.
