Isover’s Factorylite insulation was specifically developed for metal buildings. It stabilises indoor comfort levels and it also assists with the prevention of moisture collection due to condensation (which can lead to physical degradation).
Factorylite is a glass-wool roof insulation faced on one side with either a white metallised foil or a reinforced foil. The product’s thermal and acoustic properties make it an ideal choice when designing metal roofs due to a number of reasons:
Glass-wool is made from a combination of naturally occurring silica, fluxing agents and up to 80% recycled glass. This material also has a zero ozone-depleting potentiall (ODP), and no CFCs or HCFCs are produced during the production process.
This type of insulation is non-combustible and it has been tested to SANS 10177 Part 5 and SANS 428:2012, and achieves a Class 1 fire index rating when tested to SANS 10177 Part 3. Factorylite also meets the international standards tested to EN 13823, EN 13501-1 and ASTM E-84.
Factorylite reduces heat loss and gains due to the inherent thermal insulation properties. It meets the requirements of SANS 10400 XA and it is suitable for high humidity applications.
Factorylite offers exceptional acoustic properties and it absorbs indoor noise, thereby enhancing the indoor quality for occupants of the building.
Prevents moisture collection
Condensed water droplets on the metal can corrode the integrity of the structure, which is why condensation needs to be controlled in metal buildings. Using aluminium foil on its own as a vapour-retardant does not control condensation. Factorylite plays a critical role as its thermal performance assists in the dew point not being reached.
The lamination process of applying adhesives and a facing to the glass-wool insulation blanket is a crucial part of the product’s designed performance. This process can have a large impact on the thickness recovery of the insulation, as well as the fire properties of the material due to the performance of the facing and amount/type of adhesive applied.
