The INSIDE World Festival of Interiors is set to take place from 15 to 17 November at the Arena Berlin. The three-day event for design professionals combines awards, live judging, conferences, inspiration and networking. The event is the sister festival of the World Architecture Festival, which also takes place at the Arena Berlin in November.

Awards ceremony
At INSIDE’s heart is a global awards programme, which will be judged by more than 20 distinguished designers and editors from around the world. Finalists that are shortlisted across nine categories will present their project in person to international judging panels. The award categories include Bars & Restaurants; Civic, Culture & Transport; Creative Re-use; Display; Health & Education; Hotels; Offices; Residential; and Retail. The ultimate accolade at this awards function is the World Interior of the Year award, which will be presented at the Gala Dinner awards ceremony on Friday, 17 November.

Conference sessions
Conference sessions will explore how the individual relates to interior space and how material, colour, light and sound contribute to creating high-performing interiors for users and sometimes audiences. The international roster of speakers includes Annabel Karim Kassar, founder of AKK Architects; Virginia Lung, Co-Founder, One Plus Partnership; Shanwei Weng, AN Design; Jaime Oliver, Director, OHLAB/Oliver Hernaiz Architecture Lab; Rossana Hu, Co-Founder, Neri & Hu; Eisuke Tachikawa, Director, Nosigner and Fabio Novembre, Fabio Novembre Studio. INSIDE is chaired by Nigel Coates, the Creative Director of INSIDE World Festival of Interiors 2017, who will open the festival with his talk “Interiors and Performance” on Wednesday 15 November.

Programme highlights
Some of the session highlights on this year’s programme include A Sense of Theatre, where Virginia Lung will explore how design creates a complete movie-viewing experience in relation to One Plus Partnership’s Exploded Cinema in China; Shop Till You Drop, where Shanwei Weng will discuss performance in retail design; and Performance and Audiences, where Jaime Oliver and Rossana Hu will discuss signing for collective experience across a range of projects.
