Sika South Africa recently announced its acquisition of Index Construction Systems, adding to its bitumen product range globally. Index bitumen membranes have 25 years’ experience in the South African market. Paul Adams, Sika’s managing director, explains: “It comes with extensive research and development competence.”
These systems will be exclusively available from Sika South Africa for standard flat-roof, decorative, below-ground and green-roof waterproofing, all conforming to international standards. Sika proudly introduces this extensive range and offers insight to its uses:
- Sika Index Topgum Biarmato
This product offers optimal dimensional stability at both high and low temperatures. The long-lasting strength and elasticity of this product make it ideal for use as a single- or double-layer waterproofing membrane for new building work or refurbishments.
- Sika Index Testudo
This product offers waterproofing membranes with optimal resistance against punctures and piercing. They are well suited to where high mechanical resistance is required, such as foundations, earthquake-proof foundations, car parks, water works, bridges, viaducts, tunnels, subways, geological works, anti-acid protection, roofing with or without thermal insulation and renovation work.
- Sika Index Fidia polyester
These products are produced in various thicknesses, with added elastomeric and plastomeric polymers making them very strong and elastic. This reduces problems with “the banana effect” and the retraction of head lap joints. These membranes are ideal for use as dam linings, and single- or multi-layer waterproofing systems for new building work or refurbishments.
- Sika Index VIS P 4mm and 3mm
It can be used as a single-layer system or as part of a multi-layer in both the refurbishment and new building works market, and as an underlayer in a multi-layer waterproofing system, respectively.
- Sika Index Defend Antiroot
This is a root-resistant waterproofing membrane where a specific ester agent is added to the polymer-bitumen compound, forming a continuous barrier against roots. This additive was specifically developed in response to the growing trend to reduce cement by greening rooftops. The product is flexible and malleable during application, and provides high mechanical resistance, considerable ultimate elongation and excellent resistance against punching and laceration. It is always applied as the last waterproofing layer in contact with the earth for gardens.
With these durable and high-performing products being added to Sika’s existing range, Sika South Africa can supply a comprehensive full range of cutting-edge technologies for the roofing and waterproofing market.
