Adding to the successful line-up of DAS CPD events across the country, the Media in Africa team was delighted to host the inaugural DAS George.
The unique format of speakers, workshop and supplier networking was warmly welcomed by the Garden Route’s architectural community.
The day started with the latest information on thermal insulation, delivered by TIPSASA chief executive officer, Des Schnetler. She clarified what the new classifications mean for the industry and cleared up some misconceptions.
Roelof Rabe of Roelof Rabe Argitekte returned to the DAS stage with his insightful presentation, “Superhumans”. He delved into the development of architectural technology up to, and including artificial intelligence (AI), and how it can be used to make the user a “superhuman”.
Questioning what an architect is, Rudie Botha of Werkhof Architects took the delegates through his journey of architect to builder. He shared lessons he has learnt and how the two professions each has its place in the evolution from empty site to completed building.
Willem Grove of Coverland talked about what the company can bring to the party, working with the industry to build new horizons.
George Municipality is one of the fastest growing regions in the country, and it has a plan, which Dr Kosie Haarhof, deputy director of strategic growth and economic development at George Municipality, shared with the delegates.
Giving some top tips on how to promote their practice online, Marlene E van Rooyen, chief executive officer of the Media in Africa Group, ran a workshop on how to write copy that converts, how to clarify the target audience, and the do’s and don’ts for websites.
Sharing his knowledge and experience, Callie van der Merwe of COOOP Design Partnership discussed design for behaviour in hospitality, with practical examples.
