A new category of specialised clay products is set to change the way the built environment looks at materiality and space-making.
Established brick manufacturer Claytile has rebranded as Klay, with a sub-brand, Klay Concept representing the designs from the purpose built “specials” factory. The brand offers a category of distinctive fired clay products not seen before in the South African market.
Concepts in clay
This fresh offering is bringing unique clay products that are trending now in the world of design to African shores. Featuring products that are more commonly seen in cement, Klay Concept is introducing specialised clay wall and cladding solutions, as well as flooring options and screen blocks.
“It’s an interesting range, full of potential, and our product development teams are constantly generating new ideas. This is just the beginning,” says Alicja Radwanska.
Imagination and clay
This product category is aimed at a market that values innovation and quality. It provides flexible, attractive architectural options to a wide range of commercial and residential projects.
With its own varied clay reserves and extensive technical expertise developed over many years the team can generate prototypes, samples and customized clay solutions for the building industry.
Clay is linked to nature, as it is sustainable, durable and offers a soft look and feel that is warm and nurturing. Alicja explains: “Play with it, use it for anything, from flooring to outdoor seating and braai areas. Take your imagination and clay and create beautiful surroundings.”
Design freedom to build and finish
Often associated with outdoor spaces, these new products from Klay Concept bring clay indoors, with an environmentally friendly and updated take on the iconic “Breeze Block” as example.
Available in smooth or textured finishes, and in a coffee-inspired palette of colours, from espresso to latte, the products allow for mixing and matching to create unique designs.
Speaking on the inspiration for the range, Alicja says: “Coffee gives a feeling of ‘goodness’ and we want to create spaces that feel good – with a homely aesthetic that is relatable to everyone.”
Customisation opportunities
The company looks forward to working with the architectural and design fraternity, collaborating and bringing new ideas to the market. “We are excited to explore how we can evolve together, producing customised building solutions,” Alicja concludes.
A market first in South Africa, Klay Concepts, is bringing a new category of clay building products to the market that offers new design elements, modern colours, exciting textures and custom solutions.
