Safintra’s Classicorr corrugated Rheinzink roof sheeting was selected for a redevelopment in the city centre of Port Elizabeth.

As part of an urban city regeneration project in Port Elizabeth, Safintra’s Classicorr corrugated profile, rolled with Rheinzink was specified for the restoration and redevelopment of the city blocks of Donkin Hill, Constitution Hill and Victoria Street, some of the oldest in the city centre.

The project included replacing the roofs of the iconic Donkin Village houses, a terraced row of houses built between 1860 and 1880, as well as a village designed by DHK Architects, which houses a number of businesses and shops.

Safintra, a selected system partner of Rheinzink (South Africa), was appointed to roll-form Rheinzink coil from the PATINA line for this prestigious project.

“The Classicorr corrugated profile is both timeless and contemporary, and was an obvious choice for this terraced development,” says Nicci Solomons, Marketing manager for Safintra South Africa. “It will enhance the skyline of Port Elizabeth for many decades to come.”

Profile perfect
According to Solomons, Rheinzink was selected for the roofs in the redevelopment of Constitution Hill due to its longevity and its distinctive aesthetics.

Rheinzink is a titanium zinc material which is maintenance-free and offers a service life of 75 years or more in all environments. The prePATINA line is available in three finishes:
•    prePATINA Bright rolled.
•    prePATINA blue-grey.
•    prePATINA graphite-grey.

The latter two finishes were selected for the Donkin Village project.

The blue-grey and the graphite-grey colouring of these two pre-weathered formats are alloy-based and not through a colour-coating process. Instead, the finish is achieved in the factory as a zinc patina which lasts for the lifespan of the sheeting.

The contractor responsible for installing the Classicorr corrugated profile on the roofs in Donkin Village is Andy Muelhe from Spenglerei Muelhe CC, a German zinc crafting company.
