Being a flooring installer is hard work, but Nosipho Majozi likes a challenge, as she says: “You have to face challenges to get somewhere.” Floors Magazine asked her about how she found her passion for flooring.
Why did you want to become an installer?
I was working as a cleaner at Top Carpets & Floors; and was interested to see what the installers did when they went out to site every day. They showed me pictures and I loved what I saw. In 2019 I decided that this was something that I wanted to do.
How did you start?
I started as a learner at Tjeka Training Matters Academy before joining the installation teams on site. I have recently graduated from the Belgotex Training Academy, which will have a significant impact on my life.
Top Carpets & Floors really believe in me and support me, and with that I can go far. My superiors listen to me when I ask for information or help, and they guide me all the way.
Where are you today?
I am a qualified installer of carpets and vinyl sheeting, working out of the Top Carpet & Floors Warehouse. Currently I am the only woman installer one site, but my dream is to one day have my own flooring business.
What would you say to other women thinking about a career in flooring?
Go for it! If you really want to do it, then take the chance and the opportunity with both hands. But I would say that you must love it – because when you do something that you love, you don’t mind the challenges and difficulties along the way.
