Focussed on performance and safety – the South African Sports and Play Industry (SASPI) is dedicated to elevating the profile of both the sports and playground surfaces sector locally.
“Our primary objective is to enhance the reputation of the sector while fostering the engagement of all industry stakeholders across Southern Africa,” says SASPI chairman, Jeremy Stewart.
Setting high standards
SASPI is focussed on the quality of sports and playground surfaces. This involves setting minimum requirement standards for members, regulating the industry where necessary and providing education to all sectors of the industry as well as the general public.
It further promotes the sustainability of surfacing products, ensuring that they are environmentally friendly and long-lasting. “We advocate for rigorous training programmes, upholding elevated standards, promoting professionalism, encouraging ethical behaviour and facilitating social interactions,” says Stewart.
Artificial grass for soccer pitches is available in a range of thicknesses to meet International (FIFA) and local league requirements.
SANS-certified rubber surfacing
“Did you know that failing to install suitable rubber safety surfacing at the correct legally certified thickness in a playground can lead to hefty fines?” says Stewart.
Playground injuries are concerning – annually, over 200 000 children under 14 receive medical treatment for such incidents. Adhering to safety standards prevents severe injuries and ensures responsible management of recreational spaces, which is promoting a safer environment for children.
Professional development
SASPI places high emphasis on training and professional development, ensuring that members have access to the latest knowledge, techniques and technologies in the field of sports and playground surfacing.
“A well-informed and skilled workforce is essential for the growth and sustainability of the industry. Together we can ensure that every athletic field, sports court and playground in Southern Africa stands as a testament to quality, safety and excellence,” concludes Stewart.
SASPI strives to foster excellence in quality, standards and ethical practices within the sports and playground surfaces industry.
