The theme of the 2013 annual Year-End function of the Department of Architecture (Tshwane University of Technology) was d’masque – mask yourself. The event, which was held at the Capitol Theatre on Church Square, Pretoria CBD, celebrated the Department’s achievements.

One of the stand-out segments at the event was ArchiFashion, where the first-year students paraded their unique handmade outfits, which represented well-known buildings of the capital city. The designs ranged from Mathews & Associates Architects’ Nellmapius Bridge to Mashabane Rose Associates’ Freedom Park. The event also included a small awards ceremony and the announcement of the Executive Student Body representatives for 2014.

Guests were greeted with champagne on a red carpet. Over 200 sponsors, lecturers, staff and students arrived in an array of spectacular masks and garments, ranging from Victorian ball gowns to African robes. Guests were treated to a three-course meal and personalised gifts, whilst professional photographers captured the moments.

The Department’s Executive Student Body actively raised funds throughout the year in order to host this event. Walls & Roofs in Africa and Floors in Africa were among the proud sponsors of the event.
