This article showcases two projects with the visual appeal of each matching its functional needs.
A mall is a unique setting which requires floorcoverings that can withstand heavy wear and tear. They need to bear with ongoing foot traffic while taking the strain of exposure to environmental elements, for example UV rays, and interior elements such as trolleys.
These factors need to be considered when specifying a floorcovering, which is exactly what FloorworX did when tasked with installing floor products for two retail shops in two very busy and vibrant malls.
Dune (London Shoe Store) in Centurion
Dune, located in Centurion Mall, is a flagship store in Gauteng targeted at so-called “shoe addicts” who are on the hunt for a dose of style and fashion. This 120m² store features a retail concept from Dune London, showcasing the latest collection of ladies’ and men’s footwear and accessories. The store design aims to be engaging and an exciting shopping experience.
The flooring product installed was FloorworX’s French oak engineered wood (190mm wide by 15mm thick) which was stained onsite after application and glued down with Bona R848. Two-thirds of the floor was oiled with Rubio Monocoat Mist 5% and the remainder of the centre walkway was coated with Rubio Monocoat in Chocolate.
Typo Store in Cresta Mall
Typo is a stationery and gifting store known for stocking fun, quirky and quality products while injecting fashion into the classics to create something unexpected. Once again FloorworX installed its French oak engineered floor (190mm wide by 15mm thick); however, for this installation the product was pre-stained with two coats and sealed with a high-traffic, water-based sealant.
In terms of colour, it had to be specially matched, and the floor was stained offsite prior to installation.
