Revolutionising construction with recycled rubber – by upcycling waste rubber tyres from the environment, Xtyre is pioneering a sustainable construction solution that aims to make a significant impact on the environment, one tyre at a time.
Xtyre’s innovative approach involves transforming recycled rubber into long-lasting, aesthetically pleasing building materials, including fully waterproof parapet coping systems.
Xtyre’s rubber coping mechanism is the first of its kind in South Africa, and it offers several key advantages.
Addressing building maintenance issues
This innovative solution addresses common issues associated with concrete copings, such as cracking and leaking parapets.
Using a double drip line design, Xtyre’s recycled rubber copings hold the water away from the wall, saving on costly paint damage and cracking plaster. Essentially doubling the paints life span and preventing water ingress into the plaster.
Xtyre’s rubber copings can be applied around rectilinear and curved parapets.
The product is available in 1.2m sections which are bonded to the raw concrete and bonded together to create a seamless fully waterproof system. Xtyres copings are available in all standard wall widths. The copings can be colour-matched to any wall, ensuring seamless integration with existing structures.
It requires minimal maintenance and has a 30-70 year lifespan, a feature highly valued by shopping centres and other commercial properties.
Installation
Xtyre’s rubber copings save time and costs on construction sites by eliminating the need for scaffolding and offering a quicker installation process.
Their lightweight, robust design requires less site space for storage, leading to faster construction and reduced labour costs. Additionally, these copings provide superior waterproofing, flexibility, and durability, minimizing long-term maintenance expenses.
Environmental impact
The company aims to integrate as many United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its business model as possible.
All factory waste is recycled, and the rubber products themselves are fully recyclable, ensuring that Xtyre’s operations contribute to a circular economy.
The environmental benefits are substantial, with each square metre of installed material reducing landfill waste by one cubic metre. The K value and R value of the materials further enhance energy efficiency, making Xtyre’s products a smart investment for the future.
Xtyre proudly offers Environmental Merit Certificates to its clients, like the one issued for the Investec Cornubia Shopping Centre project. These certificates highlight the environmental benefits of using recycled materials, such as rubber from repurposed tyres, thereby contributing to improved ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) scores.
Moreover, by incorporating sustainable practices, Xtyre’s clients can enhance their ESG profiles and potentially earn carbon credits, further supporting their commitment to environmental stewardship and reducing carbon footprints.
Proven sustainability
Xtyre’s commitment to environmental sustainability is evident in a recent project where 4 500m of rubber coping tiles were fitted at a shopping centre.
This project utilised 80 tons of recycled rubber, equivalent to the material from over 50 000 average passenger tyres, effectively preventing 6 250 cubic metres of waste from ending up in landfills.
Xtyre will also furnish each client with a certificate
