Preparing and applying the wooden sports floor finish
Besides being well sanded, dry and free from any contamination, the floor must be acclimatised to its end-use environment and treated with Bona Sportive Finish Courts. Lines should be marked with a suitable lining tape.
The paint should reach room temperature and the container should be stirred thoroughly before use. Optimal application conditions are between 18-25°C and 30-60% relative air humidity. High temperatures and low humidity shorten, while low temperatures and high humidity lengthen drying time. Minimum temperature for use is 13°C. Application rate is 6–10m²/litre per coat (120–200m of a 50mm wide line).
This coating can also be used on floors that have already been lacquered, but floors treated with polish, wax or similar products can’t be overcoated. Treat previously lacquered with Bona Deep Clean Solution before application.
Three steps to applying the coating
Apply paint using a brush or a shorthaired mohair roller. Avoid accumulation of paint and overlap wet-on-wet without interruptions. Note that poor coverage affects the opacity/hiding ability. Remove lining tape directly after applying paint.
Let it dry. If necessary, apply a second coat of paint.
Protect the painted areas with 1-2 layers of Bona Sportive Finish. Once the paint has been allowed more than 24 hours drying time, lightly sand the paint with a Bona Scrad Pad (no wing) prior to overcoating.
Light use of the sports floor can commence within 8 hours of application with full hardness being achieved within 7 days of application.
Bona Sportive Paint should never be used as the final treatment for timber floors. Use Bona Sportive Finish which will ensure high resistance to wear, scuff marks and scratches and meets EN 14904:2006 and DIN 18032:2 requirements for slip resistance.
These finishes are not FloorworX standard stock items. However, depending on market interest, these sport floor solutions can be acquired through them.
