To maintain the beauty and functionality of vinyl floors, a cleaning and maintenance regime has to be implemented without spending hours on extensive labour.
High performance and visual appeal go hand in hand with quality vinyl. While most vinyl products are refined with a PU coating that protects the floorcovering, proper care and maintenance of a vinyl floor will ultimately result in a longer lifespan of the product.
Vinyl is a tough and durable floor solution but everyday wear and tear will become noticeable if the product is not cared for properly. Shoes display enormous quantities of dirt and moisture. This type of soiling tracked into buildings makes interiors dirty and unattractive, causes unnecessary structural damage to floorcoverings and finishes, and creates health and safety hazards.
To rectify these problems costs money. It has been estimated that, if effective measures are not taken to avoid unnecessary soiling, the repair and maintenance costs of a typical floorcovering over its lifespan could be nine times the cost of the original investment.
A good-quality entrance matting system incorporating a Coral clean-off zone provides an effective way to reduce such expenditure. By preventing up to 90% of dirt and moisture from entering a building, cleaning bills can be reduced by up to 65% and significantly prolong the life of interior floorcoverings and finishes.
Coral Duo from FloorworX has been manufactured to resolve these and other challenges. Coral Duo provides supreme dirt removal and is particularly effective at trapping and retaining soil and moisture in the first few steps inside an entrance area. Research has shown that Coral Duo retains 10% more dirt in the first few metres than several other textile entrance flooring systems, which also makes it an ideal choice for smaller entrances.
Coral Duo’s daily cleaning routine requires the use of either vacuum cleaners that incorporate mechanically driven rotating brushes, or suction-only machines with a rotating brush attachment. It is also advisable to vacuum slowly and in all directions across the matting.
To spot clean, spillage should be gently cleared away with a blunt scraper. Thereafter the remaining spillage should be treated with a propriety carpet spot cleaner, rinsed with clean water and allowed to dry.
At intervals the matting should be treated with a deeper cleaning process called spray extraction. This removes soiling from the base of the pile and restores the surface texture to optimise its “clean-off” performance. The process can be carried out using either a spray extraction machine or a 3-in-1 spray-and-brush machine.
Vinyl flooring’s care and maintenance regimes do not have to entail hours of labour or turn into a full-time job; however, there are a few things that have to be done to keep the floors looking as good as the day they were installed.
