Embracing inherent talents

A woman has several unique talents and skills which, when combined with passion, can result in huge achievements.

Matco Marketing is a family business and, after gaining invaluable experience while working at other companies, Nicole Herron went on to follow in the footsteps of her father and brother. Her role entails responsibilities that extend from the daily functioning of the business to monitoring cash flow, from stock holding to visiting new and existing customers. She also maintains contact with local and international suppliers, monitors promotional activities and provides solutions to internal issues that may be experienced by staff.

“As flooring requires aesthetic appeal, a female touch is definitely advantageous in terms of effectively combining the floor finish with a specific look and feel,” says Nicole. “Besides having an eye for detail, women also have a natural talent for working on a variety of projects at the same time. This multi-tasking ability enables us to handle a greater diversity of projects, even when faced with time pressures.”

She adds that women are naturally empathetic, taking the time to listen to their client, which is crucial in building relationships. “We ensure the growth of the Matco brand by understanding what our customers require in terms of matting and by maintaining efficient stock levels and top service,” she highlights.

Nicole firmly believes that women who have the ability to make decisions and take action as necessary will be successful, as the business world is extremely competitive. “The key to success is to believe in yourself,” she concludes. “Women who use their natural talents and are willing to work hard and embrace competitiveness will find that if they assume the role and act the part, they will become it.”
